Through implementing the Government’s policy on housing and settlement in rural areas, Rwanda Housing Authority has embarked on the presentation of the basic housing construction instruction document across the country.
This comes following the prevailing heavy rains that have caused loss of lives, property and important infrastructure in Rwanda.
The instruction sheet entails what should be done in order to protect houses mostly in rural areas against the natural and manmade disasters.
This awareness is being done by RHA in partnership with MINALOC and MIDMAR. They are disseminating information aimed at sensitizing the residents of the district on how to be always equipped in handling these risky and unplanned disasters as they unfold.
RHA is calling upon people to build strong and safe house foundations, walls, roofs as well as maintenance system to ensure their safety and that of their property in rural areas.
The public has been asked to avoid using local masons who lack basic knowledge and skills in civil engineering in their art of construction.
Local authorities were urged to always be the ambassadors in advocating for the use of the document together with other construction documents such as Rwanda Building Control Regulations, building codes and manuals.
